The phone is ringing off the hook as we’ve just been featured in the Toronto Star.

Cake pops are poised to be a hot trend at birthdays, weddings and other celebrations in 2011.

But in the meantime two Toronto women hope to sell 300 dozen of them Thursday to send a young leukemia patient and her family on a tropical vacation.

Cake pops are a hypbrid cupcake/lollipop that are sweeping North America thanks to a woman who blogs about baking and decorating at Bakerella.com and is about to release Cake Pops: Tips, Tricks, and Recipes for More Than 40 Irresistible Mini Treats.

In Toronto, Jennifer Borgh (Jennifer Borgh Events) and Robin Wight (Wight Weddings) will make chocolate cake pops, dip them in various colours of chocolate, and put them on sticks.

They’ll sell them for $25 per dozen at Cake Pops 4 Cancer at the T & M Sidewalk Café, 1344 Danforth Ave. (east of Greenwood Ave.), Thursday between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The net proceeds will go towards a family vacation for 4-year-old Kaitlyn Forfar (the daughter of a former co-worker), who was just diagnosed with leukemia and is being treated at the Hospital for Sick Children. Borgh is donating her commission on the vacation and use her industry contacts to create the trip.
